The Daily Press has been serving the Hampton Roads area since 1896 and continues to be the primary newspaper for the city and surrounding communities. This newspaper is actually two weeks older than the city of Newport News, publishing its first edition on January 4th. It was originally owned and edited by Charles E. Thacker and was put together in a small printing shop in the basement of the First National Bank building. Now this paper is one of the many publications run by the Tribune Company and circulates to more than 80,000 people daily, rising to over 100,000 for the Sunday edition.

If you're interested in finding out information about what's going on in your community than this is one of the best sources that you will find. The print edition of the Daily Press focuses mostly on what's happening in the Virginia Peninsula. The main office for the newspaper is located in Newport News but there are smaller operations in Gloucester, Williamsburg, and Isle of Wright County. That means that if you're looking for a story about new automatic waterers used in area farms or a festival that is coming to the city you will likely find it in this paper.

You will find that this is one of the only major newspapers where you will usually find a local story written by someone in the area on the front page. This is because of a deliberate change of focus with the publication that took place in February of 2008. While some papers might be littered with stories about a new Alberta botox procedure that's being used throughout Hollywood or financial news from New York City you will always find that this area takes priority.

But if you are looking for all of the most important national and international stories than you needn't look further than the Daily Press website. This is the site that sees the most frequent news updates in the whole state and includes stories from nearby Norfolk all the way across the ocean. And you can still find out about local events like food product launches to the local weather for the upcoming week.

If you're living in the Hampton area than you should definitely be using the Daily Press website as your resource for what's happening in and around the city. They have articles on everything from the military to being a savvy shopper and you can find out where to get organic diapers or what you should plant in your spring garden. This site will always keep you up to date on the world around you, with sports scores, television listings and the latest platinum bullion prices for those that need to manage their investment portfolio.
